This time of the year can be such a busy time for us with preparing for Hannukah and Christmas that we can tend to not get the sleep our bodies require and need.
Why is Sleep Important?
Sleep is so important as it replenishes our body for the next day. Sleep helps our body to detox of the “critters” not welcomed and restores our health.
So, making sleep a priority is something that should be high on our lifestyle list. But our sleep must be restorative. We must wake up refreshed. If you don’t, perhaps these simple changes could help you get that restorative sleep your body needs.
- Get off all technology (TV, computers, phones, etc.) at least one hour before bed.
- Be sure your room is dark. If you cannot get it completely dark, consider wearing an eye mask. (I love mine.)
- Don’t drink fluids too close to bed. It could cause you to awaken in the middle of the night to need the bathroom.
- Stay away from caffeine at least by dinner time if not earlier.
- Stay away from sugary food towards the end of the day.
- Don’t eat just before bed.
- Be sure your room is not too warm. A cooler room will be more comfortable … just warm up with blankets.
- Consider using Essential Oils.
Importance of Essential Oils
I do all the above and especially Essential Oils. I diffuse each night and one of the oils I use is called Serenity. Serenity has oils such as Lavender, Vetiver, Ho Wood, Hawaiian Sandalwood, Marjoram and Cedarwood.
Lavender has been used to dispel tension and relieve anxious feelings.
Vetiver essential oil is one of the most grounding essential oils.
Ho Wood essential oil is very calming.
Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oil is woody, earthy, and relaxing.
Marjoram is emotionally soothing.
Cedarwood can calm nerves.
