Welcome to my Podcast Giving You a Fresh Start After Trauma.  I have some thoughts about prayer and feeling like your prayers are falling on deaf ears.  So, let’s get started.

How many of you have been praying for something in your life and it seems like it’s failing on deaf ears?  You wonder where God is in your situation.  You’ve asked, begged and cried, yet all is silent and your prayer has not been answered.

Sometimes we tend to ask for something, and we think we know how God is supposed to answer us.  I’ve been there and done that.  Or you want it in your timing and God is perhaps wanting something in you to change before He gives you what you want or desire.

In His supposed silence, could God be wanting you to do a paradigm shift in your thinking or what you want your answered prayer to look like?

I love this perspective of praying and asking for specific things.

  • I asked God for strength – God gave me difficulties to make me strong.
  • I asked God for wisdom – God gave me problems to solve with Him.
  • I asked God for courage – God gave me dangers to overcome.
  • I asked God for love – God gave me difficult people to help.
  • I asked God for provision – God gave me a business idea or new job.

My prayers were answered!  They just were answered in a way I didn’t think they would be.

Perhaps take some quiet time with the Father and meditate on what you are asking for and praying about.  Has He already answered that pray but in a way, you didn’t expect so you are not recognizing it.  In the chaos of our days and the world spinning around us, being still and quiet can be hard so we must be intentional to get that “quiet.”

God tells us to ask and He will answer.  I know many will say, “I’ve been asking and I don’t hear anything or have my prayer answered.”  The first step is to believe that He will answer.  If you ask and then in the back of your mind you are saying, “Oh I probably won’t get an answer.  It seems like God never talks to me.”  Then I could almost guarantee you won’t hear anything.

God also tells us to be persistent in our prayers.  Why?  I really don’t know.  Christ gave an example of a woman going to a judge with a request and she was very persistent.  Because of her persistence the judge finally granted her request.  Maybe God wants to see your persistence to determine how much you really want what you are asking for.

A last thought!

Lastly, if your prayer(s) are not getting answered, remember you are in covenant with the King of Kings.  Put a demand on that covenant.  God won’t be mad at you or think you are doing anything wrong.  He actually will be pleased that you realize the covenant you have with Him and the fact that you are acting upon it.

Is there a time to give up on a specific prayer request?  Possibly.  He never says, “Ok pray for one week and if I don’t answer you give up.”  He just tells us to be persistent.  But if your persistence is wearing you down, tell Him.  “Father, I’m tired.  I’ve been asking and praying now for this specific issue, and nothing has happened.  I’m not sure why but I’m going to lay this issue at Your Feet and if it’s something You want me to have, then I trust You will give it to me.  If it’s not, then I will be ok with that as well.”  You totally surrendered your issue to Him, are walking in trust, and have moved on.

God doesn’t play emotional games with us like people do, but He could have us in a place where He is changing our heart because a renewed heart is more important than our request.

Bottom line it’s about trusting the Father and knowing that He has your best interest at heart and will guide you in the steps He has for your life and/or your specific circumstance.

Don’t give up nor be discouraged. He’s a good Father and loves you deeply.
