Does changing neural pathways really happen in our mind?  In this Podcast I share a real-life story with you about my own personal neural pathways that have been positively wired for years and still bring me positive results.

Welcome friends to my podcast Giving You a Fresh Start After Trauma.  I’m looking forward to sharing with you some personal experience I have with having my neural pathways wired for success in a specific area of my life.  Let’s get started.

“I’d Prefer to Read Your Message!”

For the past few emails, I have been discussing the important of “rewiring” your brain or “renewing” your mind and how important it is to change your life for the positive.  So many of us try many avenues to bring healing or change our circumstances and of course they can work.  But depending on the intensity of your “stronghold” (stronghold is a thought you keep defending) it might take more than therapy or talking it out to bring you victory.  This statement from Dr. Irena O’Brien gives a little more clarity to those who are in therapy.

“The brain doesn’t change because each session is insightful.

It changes because patterns are rewired.”

Dr. Irena O’Brien Cognitive Neuroscientist

What I think Dr. O’Brien is saying is that we can be coached or be in therapy and have a great session, but that does not necessarily mean that your neural pathways have changed.  They will change when we rewire them.

Now I don’t believe all our beliefs (hence neural pathways) need to be rewired. Only the ones that are not true and are causing you negative issues in your life.

Let me give you this example.

Some may think this is strange and you have the right to that belief.  But for me this is very real and gives me victory every time.

When I was very little, maybe 3- 4 years old, I had a very frightening experience with my parents regarding vomiting.  Because of that situation, I was terrified to ever vomit and I mean terrified.  The last time I ever did was when I was 5 years old (over 60 years ago).  I really mean that.  I have not vomited since I was 5 years old.  How did this happen?

Well, when I was sick and feeling like I was going to vomit, because of the fear inside me, I prayed and begged God to not let me vomit and every time He answered that prayer.  Even when I was about 19 -20 years old and I had typhoid salmonella food poisoning and was very sick, I never vomited. And I had food poisoning.  It was shocking to the nurses and doctors when I got admitted to the Hospital because of a 107 ° temperature and I was very sick.

Because I had this experience with my Father in Heaven, I have these neural pathways that say I can trust the Lord with this specific issue or any health issue for that matter.   Every time I pray regarding health issues, He answers my prayers.

If I ever feel something of an illness coming upon me, I literally pray it off and it’s gone.  My neural pathways regarding health issues are lined up to the truth of God’s word.  “By His stripes we are healed and whole.”

God blessed me with children …

Also, God even gave me children that never had stomach viruses.  I think my son had it once for less than 24 hours.  So, as I was full of fear of this not so nice thing we can do when sick, the Father honored my prayer to not let me experience it.  Fortunately, He also healed my fear of the actual act, and I am no longer afraid of vomiting.  But I still do not because of the power of prayer and my grounded belief.

With that being said, I do have some neural pathways that are strongholds (remember a stronghold is a thought you keep defending) in my life, and it does need to be rewired.  God has given me specific instructions as what I need to do to rewire my mind or renew my mind in a very specific issue.

As the Bible says in Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

I have 5 – 6 specific instructions He has given me to accomplish victory in that very specific issue in my life that is a stronghold and has been since at least high school but maybe longer.  We each need to get with the Lord and ask what He would have us to do to accomplish victory in our life.  He knows us better than anyone else and knows what we need to do to have that victory.

But let me give you at least one simple step you can take to begin.

How about if you “take back the quiet.”  Begin by having quiet space in your day.  We can be so filled with “noise” that it’s hard for our brain to settle down.  We listen to the news, social media, podcasts, and TV that our mind is constantly being filled with “stuff.”  And sadly, it’s not always good stuff.  Be intentional about giving yourself some quiet space and either talk to the Lord or just be still.

Start with a single moment today and be fully present.  Shut your phone, computer, Tv and all electronics off.  You could take a walk, sit on your porch, sit with a cup of coffee.  Whatever you choose to do, be SILENT.  Let that silence settle in and clear your mind to make room for those new neural pathways.

Many of us dedicate time to declutter our homes but how about we begin decluttering our minds.
