There are many laws that we follow in life such as the law of gravity. Well did you know that there is a law of the mind and if you understand this law and how it operates, it can change your life.

Welcome friends to my Podcast Giving You a Fresh Start After Trauma. Today I’m going to talk about something I’ve spoken on before. But sometimes we need to review new concepts many times before they embed in our heart. So let’s get started.
In November of this year, I will be blessed and honored to help participate in a natural home birth either helping mom or taking care of the other children. How exciting it will be to experience the birth of life.
Even though I’ve had two children of my own, experiencing a natural home birth is 100% different. When you give birth yourself, there is much going on, and you are not necessarily experiencing the fullness of this miracle. But being a support in whatever way this young mom wants or needs, will bring a whole new experience of the miracle of life to me.
Last week she asked me if I wanted to look through the natural birth manual to have a greater understanding of the whole beautiful process. Of course, I said yes.
Law of the Mind
That night I began looking through the manual and the first topic I read was comforting to know. It was titled the Law of the Mind.
In the process of childbirth, there can be much pain, and it would be very easy for one’s mind to take off focusing on the pain. But what this manual stated, was that there is a “Law of the Mind-Body Response.” It said that “For every thought you think, there is a corresponding chemical and physiological response within the body.” How beautiful that in childbirth what your mind focusing on is very much embraced.
As I’ve written in the past, it is critical what we allow our minds to ponder and think on. Our mind cannot distinguish between what we are allowing ourselves to think on verse having something traumatic happening to us. So, if we keep thinking on the trauma we have experienced, our body is responding in a “traumatic” state and our cortisol is increasing, our blood pressure can be rising, and our heart rate can increase.
But the opposite is true if we think on things that are pleasant and/or relaxing. Then our blood pressure can decrease, our heart rate will slow down, and our brain will release “feel-good” hormones such as serotonin, dopamine, endorphins, and oxytocin.
Law of Expectation
We also have the Law of Expectation. Basically, what you are expecting to happen is more than likely what you will experience. So, if you have experienced some traumatic events that seem to repeat itself over and over, your mind is probably going to expect it to happen again. Because what your mind is going to focusing on, is more than likely to happen.
“Renewing your mind” from your traumatic experience to get off the spinning wheel of the constant repetition of trauma is critical for your health and wellbeing.
Law of Motivation
The Law of Motivation and the basis of that is what you want in life or a specific circumstance, is more than likely what you will move towards. Now you could say, “I’m not motivated to keep having this negative issue happen to me over and over again.” That might be true to your conscious mind. By not renewing your mind from the trauma you keep in the back of your mind, can be coming from your unconscious motivation for staying in the negative state you have been in.
Think about a drug addict. Many times, they say that they finally got to the point where they have had enough. It was at that point that their motivation was geared to healing.
Law of Repetition
Sometimes we need help transitioning our motivation to one of positivity and healing and that could be the Law of Repetition which says, “Whatever you see, hear, or say repeatedly is eventually accepted as truth.”
This is why I say getting into God’s Word to locate God’s truth about your situations/circumstances is of utmost importance. Once that truth is uncovered, it is important to see it, hear yourself say it and repeatedly say it so it can get embedded into your heart and be transformed to truth. This is how you renew your mind.
Now just saying something over and over again is not necessarily the magic process. That is just mental ascent. That truth must get into your heart. It must be believed and go from that “mental assent” to a heart transformation. That’s where you know that you know what the truth is.
We all must process our thoughts!
Just as this young mom is being trained in how she was going to process her thoughts during childbirth, we all must process our thoughts to think in a positive way.
For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them]. Philippians 4:8 The Amplified Bible, AMPC
Take some quiet time and think about what is going on in your life that seems to be repeating itself. Then ask yourself is there a root to these events? If you uncover that root, bring it to the Father for healing and then begin to change your thought process on how you think about this specific trauma.
Don’t continue to hold onto it and replay it over and over in your mind like you would your favorite movie!
