I love this statement from Helen Keller when asked, “What is worse than not having sight?”

“Having sight but not having vision!”

Wow, that statement is so impactful.  How many of us go through life drifting along being content with just doing our job and coming home?  How many of us never have had a vision for our life or we think we have but we are not content and fulfilled in what we currently are doing?

When I got trained as a Certified Health Coach by the Institute of Integrative Nutrition a few years ago, we were taught there are two levels of Food … Primary and Secondary.  Primary Food is the following:

  • How are your relationships?
  • What is your physical activity?
  • What is your spiritual life like?
  • HOW IS YOUR CAREER?

If any of those are out of sorts, then focusing on the Secondary Food or the food they eat is not top priority.  We need to get these “Primary Foods” in alignment first.

The vision for my life was to be a teacher.

I ate, drank, and slept about being a teacher.  I even pretended to play being a teacher.  It was in my blood.  I vividly remember the day I told my dad that I wanted to go to college to become a teacher and what his response was.  It wasn’t pretty.  You see at that time in the early 70’s there was considered an abundance of teachers and my dad felt I was going to “go to school, pay all that money, AND NOT GET A JOB!”  Those words rang true to my heart for years and years.

I have forgiven my dad and even myself for listening to his lie and taking it as my own.  I’ve also come to the realization that it’s never too late to do what God has called you to do or designed you to be.  We can all move into our calling at any time.

Something was missing

This week I got a call from a potential client that a physician referred to me.  She was a well-educated (has several Masters), has a great job, beautiful children and a loving husband.  Yet there was something missing.  She feels incomplete.  As she considers our working together, I am hoping to work with her to help her get clear on what is causing her to feel this way.

Are you living the vision for your life?

Do you feel complete in who you are and what you do?

If not, then take the step to begin to look at where you got off the path.  There’s a great Scripture in the Bible where God says, “Stop at the crossroads and look around.  Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it.  Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls.”  (Jeremiah 6:16)

Do you want rest for your soul?

Then stop and take some time as you stand at the crossroads.  Determine if you are on the right path.  If you are not and realize this is what has you feeling incomplete and unfulfilled, then move towards making a change.  Sometimes working with a Coach who can guide you, encourage you and help you stay on course is what you need to help you reach your goal.
