With summer to be upon us soon, people are beginning to make those plans for the beach and enjoying being outside.  Unfortunately, many are afraid of the sun and have been misled into believing the sun is harmful.  Yes, letting your skin burn is not a good idea.  But being in the sun and even getting a little color is healthy.  But people are afraid they are going to get skin cancer.

More and more studies are showing that it’s not the sun that causes cancer, as we have been led to believe, but it’s the toxic chemicals in the sunscreen that’s causing the cancer.  Of course, there can be other factors that cause skin cancer but blaming it on the sun is not the answer.  I have a section in my up-and-coming Study Guide Your Journey to Wholeness that speaks on this very specific issue.

Most people have this belief about the sun:

  • Gives you Vitamin D
  • Causes Cancer

Recently, I read an article that stated that your skin responds to the sun based on what you eat.  I thought that was so interesting.  You have to wonder why some people burn so easily while others don’t.  Could it be based on the nutrients in your body?  Something to ponder.

The article went on further to say that our skin is made up of layers that are rich in lipids of fats.  The type of fat that you eat will construct the fatty acid composition of your skin.  Well, that was intriguing for sure.  If you load yourself with a lot of polyunsaturated fats such as linoleic acid (which are Omega-6s or seed oils), your skin will become more reactive in the sun.

This process of damage to your skin will increase inflammation and cause your skin to even be more sensitive to the exposure of the sun.  Studies show that the more Omega-6s (Linoleic Acid or seed oils) you have in your body, you have a greater risk of melanoma as well as other skin cancers. Bottom line, get rid of the bad fats/seed oils from your pantry and be sure your body has a balance of Omega-6s and Omega-3s.

Could this be another reason why people get skin cancers but blame it on the sun?

It’s definitely something to think about.  Here are some reference links:

But what is the truth about the sun? As it is said, “Sun is energizing, healing and essential to life.”

  • It actually can help prevent cancer if you are not lathering yourself with chemicals.
  • Gives you Vitamin D … true Vitamin D.
  • It can help lower your blood pressure.
  • Produces ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) which is the main energy currency of your cells.
  • Supports your blood flow.
  • Helps to release endorphins. Endorphins are a hormone that are released to help relieve pain, reduce stress and even improve your mood.
  • It will increase your subcellular melatonin which will help you sleep at night.
  • The sun can help balance your hormones and help balance your moods.
  • Sunlight can help burn fat. Studies show that Vitamin D deficiency can be linked to obesity.
  • Daytime sunlight can help improve evening alertness.

Yes, Please Get Sun!

So, you see there is an important aspect to allowing our body to absorb sun.  Again, you do not want your body to burn and there are ways to help prevent that.

  • You can wear light clothing and a hat to help filter the sun if you will be outside for a long period of time.
  • If you want to put some sunscreen on because you will be at the beach all day, there are safer ones out there then the regular over the counter brands full of toxic chemicals. (You can learn more about this in my Study Guide Your Journey to Wholeness!)

Don’t be afraid of the sun nor feel that every time you take a step outside you must later up with sunscreen.  I believe women’s facial skincare that has SPFs in it are toxic.  We must get some sun.  We need Vitamin D, and we need the real thing not just getting it from a supplement.

God created everything to line up and be perfect.  God created the universe and everything about it to keep us healthy and well.  It’s man that distorts it and makes it toxic.  BTW what do you think will be the ramifications if Bill Gates is successful in trying to “block the sun?”  How insane is that?  He needs to go back and try to make Microsoft a better product or better yet RETIRE.
