What are the things that you allow to be “stored” in your heart as if it’s a room to store your clutter? Sometimes we don’t even know what we are piling in this storeroom of our heart. When I was organizing full time, I found that some of my clients had things they forgot they had. Many times, I’d hear, “Oh that’s where that is. I’ve been looking for it.” Or “Oh I forgot I had this and just bought another one.”
When clutter piles up, we tend to forget what we have or what we own.
I’d Prefer to Read Your Message!
What are some of the things that could be stored in your heart, and you don’t even remember what’s there. Could any of these issues be stored in your heart?
- The lies that have been spoken over you that you’ve chosen to believe.
- Pain from a traumatic event.
- Sadness from a loss
- Rejection of a loved one
- Abandonment as a child
We can easily think about de-cluttering a room because the room feels overwhelming and you visually see it. But it’s harder to think about the clutter you hold in your heart. We can tend to think that because time has passed and the pain is long gone, that our heart is clear of these issues. The truth is that it is just buried in your heart and possibly causing poison to leak out.
One of the issues I see in many clients is believing the lies that were spoken over them whether it was from childhood or a recent painful relationship. When someone we love says painful things about us, it’s sometimes hard to let those lies go and not take them to heart.
One bit of truth to know is that your identity is tied to whatever you give your heart too. What have you allowed to define yourself and settled in your heart and does it ruminate there? What or who has first place in our heart, and it doesn’t even feel good? For me it’s best to find my identity in the one who created me. (I’m sure you’ve heard me say this many times.)
Great Movie – Overcomer!
Recently, I watched a movie called Overcomer. I love movies or even books that speak to my heart and give me a message. If you are not familiar with the Movie, it’s about a young girl who decided to run track, and she has asthma. Sadly, she had some trauma in her life that was causing much pain, but the beautiful thing was she was able to “Overcome” it all. In the Movie, she was asked if she knew who she was … as defined by Christ. One day it hit her, and she recited the truth to her Coach. It was a powerful message and I’m sharing below what she said. Take these words to heart. They are for you as well.
I am created by God. He designed me so I’m not a mistake.
His son died for me just so I could be forgiven.
He picked me to be his own, so I’m chosen.
God redeemed me so I am wanted.
He showed me GRACE just so I could be saved.
My Father has a future for me, because he loves me.
So, I don’t wonder any more … I am a child of God.
It’s important to understand that stored negative emotions from childhood can very likely become diseases as an adult. By not dealing with the negative thoughts and emotions that are stored in your heart, you could be creating the perfect storm in your life/body.
We all need to examine our hearts!
Take some time to examine your heart and be sure that what you have stored in there is worthy of your life and well-being. I find when I have condemnation about something it’s not what God wants me to believe or hold onto. When He speaks truth, as hard as it could be to receive, it brings conviction but not condemnation.
These are some feelings you might have that could be an indicator that what is in your heart is not serving you well.

Just like it’s good to periodically go through our homes to purge what may be causing clutter there, it’s also good to go into our hearts to be sure what we are holding onto and what we are storing there is serving a purpose in giving us life to the fullness it deserves.
