When I am working with a Health Coaching client, we begin by looking at Primary Foods not just Secondary Foods (foods you eat).  What are Primary Foods?  It’s your relationships, your physical activity, your career and your spirituality.  If anyone of those areas is out of whack, trying to encourage you to eat more broccoli might not be the first best step.

Let’s Look at Primary Foods

Looking at those Primary Foods is critical to the health and well-being for your life.  One of the ways to evaluate how those areas are measured, is by completing The Circle of Life.  This Circle encompasses more than those 4 Primary areas and evaluating all of those areas is a wise step to take every 3-4 months.

In this message, I am attaching a CircleOfLife for you to print off and complete.  Be sure to date it.  Evaluate and measure where you are in each area and determine where you need to make some changes.

Then each week, I am going to focus on one of the spokes of the Circle to give you some tips and guidance on how you could make some changes in your life.

Your Career

This week I want to focus on the Primary Food of your Career.  Our job, our business, our career is where we spend a great portion of our day.  Wouldn’t it make sense that your job or career should be one that you enjoy doing or being at?

Do you feel fulfillment in what you are doing?

Is this your mission or your calling?

Are you get energized as you begin your workday?

Or is it a place where you just make a living?

Now let me say this.  If your job or career is just where you make a living and you are at total peace about that, then great.  You have nothing to look at or nothing to change.  Many people just do their job daily and then the rest of their day gives them joy and fulfillment.  I think the key here is your job causing anxiety, stress, or depression in you each day.

Hating a Job!

I remember years ago when I lived in Miami, I had a job that I hated.  Never hated a job as much as I hated this one.  Each day I barely got myself out the door.  The job was close to where I lived so I didn’t have much of a drive.  But as I turned to make a left on Biscayne Blvd, the depression hit me like a ton of bricks … every day.  There was such a foreboding spirit that came over me that I could hardly function the whole day.

Fortunately, that job only last 6 months and I moved on.  But I never want to be in that place again and I hope you don’t either.  So, print off the Circle of Life and follow the instructions for where you are on each spoke of the Circle.  Then evaluate where you are in your job or your career.  If you need to make a change, begin to strategize some steps you need to take to make that happen.  One of the Books I recommend you read is 48 Days to the Work and Life You Love
