Let’s talk about frozen yogurt and even ice cream for that matter. I’m so disappointed in these foods as they are a favorite to eat during the summer months. But I’ve changed my tune recently and avoid eating these products.
I remember years ago when we lived in our other home, close by was a dairy farm called Tulmeadow Farms. They began making homemade ice cream. Our favorite ice cream was Red Raspberry Chocolate Chip. At that time my son who was about 4 or 5 had to be careful with food colorings and preservatives. I asked if there were any food colorings in the ice cream. “Oh no it’s all natural.” So, for years we enjoyed stopping at the Farm after dinner for an ice cream cone.
Fast forward 20 years later
My son was making me a Birthday Dinner and wanted to surprise me with Tulmeadow Ice Cream. He had his girlfriend pick up a quart of Red Raspberry Chocolate Chip for me. Was I surprised when I read the ingredients. Of course, the first ingredient was corn syrup. I also found Red Dye 40 and a bunch of other ingredients that made the decision for me to never buy their ice cream again. I did eat it that day as I didn’t want to offend my son who was so excited to buy it for me.
Check out the Chart below created by Food Babe about yogurt. It is quite disturbing. She states that the ingredients in frozen yogurt as worse than ice cream. I’m not sure I agree. I think now a days ice cream is just as bad. I cannot find ice cream that doesn’t have “gums” in it, and I only look for organic. “Gums” are bad because they affect your digestion. Even the organic ice cream has gums in it.
What’s the answer?
