From a health coaching perspective for my clients that are dealing with ill-health, the first thing I would recommend with them is to look at what they are eating. What do they have in their pantry that could be contributing to their ill-health. So many people that I talk to are unaware of how the food they are eating can be bringing them harm. I experience people in these two categories:
- They have no idea of the poison that is in their everyday food. They’ve never been educated and have never thought they need to be educated or do some research.
- Then there are the individuals that “think” they are eating healthy but when you dig a little deeper with them, you uncover how deceived they sadly are.
I recently had a conversation with my eye glass guy.
He was fitting me for my new eyeglasses, and we then had a very interesting conversation. Getting close to retiring, he is really looking at his health and said to me, “I realized the medical industry is killing us as well as the food industry.”
I said, “Ray you are correct but it’s good that you are aware and now you can focus on being more involved with what you are eating and being your own patient advocate.” He agreed.
Now let me say this about our Medical Industry.
I believe we need our fabulous medical industry when we have an emergency, or an accident and we need to be put back together. There are fabulous physicians that can handle those needs magnificently. But when it comes to ill-health I think they can do more harm than good as they are more about giving a pill for an ill then getting to the root cause. If I had a health issue, a traditional medicine doctor would not be my first to go to. I would find a Naturopath or Functional Medicine Doctor because getting to the root of the issue would be my goal, not putting a band-aid on the issue with a prescription medication.
Our lifestyle is one of the most important issues for good health, but it can be hard to know where to get started. When you go to the grocery store, you can be overwhelmed with so many food options and the propaganda to buy that boxed food item because “you really don’t have time to cook from scratch.”
On one level that’s a lie because cooking from scratch is not that hard. You can make delicious simple recipes. But if you really have a “full” schedule and think you have no time to cook good healthy meals, then you might need to consider making changes regarding your time. Your life sounds like it might be out of balance.
How to Shop!
When you go to the grocery store, they say to shop along the 4 outside walls of the store and stay away from the internal isles. The outside walls are usually refrigerated and that’s where real food is sold … for the most part.
Recently I saw this post and I had to include it in this writing. It really causes you to pause and think about what it is saying AND answer that question.
I have a challenge for you for the next 30 days and that is to only eat whole real food? Stop processed foods. You will be amazed at how good you feel. Do it for only 30 days. Cut away sodas or other sugary drinks and drink water throughout the day. You can put a splash of lemon in it. The other day I had some guests for dinner. I took a pitcher of my distilled water and sliced an orange in it. It was so refreshing.
Purchase organic if your budget allows and if it doesn’t at least eat fresh. If you want green beans, buy fresh and not canned. I know you can’t make everything from scratch like spaghetti for example. I don’t make my own pasta, but I do make my own sauce. It’s not hard to do and so delicious. I make a big pot and then put the extra in large mason jars and place in the freezer to then have future meals.
In summary …
Your food is probably one of the most important areas to look at if you have just been diagnosed with a dis-ease or are currently battling one. Food is not the only thing to change, but it definitely would be the first place I would start.
Reach out, if you need help. Getting you on track would be my pleasure. Researching and understanding what food can do to you is something I’ve been studying for the past 45 years. Am I perfect in my food intake? No but I’m 95% there.
Blessings, love and health
